Pool Filter Installation That Fits Your System.
Cracked tank? Undersized cartridge from the original builder? We replace old filters with the right unit, plumbed clean and pressure tested before we leave.
Most Replacements Start as a Small Leak
Most of the pool filter installations we do start with something small. A damp ring under the tank that never quite dries. A closure band that needed one more turn this year than last. A hairline crack at the seam of a fiberglass shell that has been baking in the sun since the nineties. None of it looks urgent, so it waits.
Then the band lets go, or the crack opens up, and the filter is dumping water across the equipment pad on a Saturday morning. A filter tank holds real pressure, often 25 to 30 PSI under load, and an old shell gives very little warning before it quits. If yours is weeping, bulging, or held together with epoxy from a previous repair, it is telling you something. Listen to it.
Repair the Old Tank or Replace It?
Not every problem means a new filter, and we would rather fix a sound tank than sell you a new one. Here is the honest split.
Worth repairing
O-rings, pressure gauges, air relief valves, a single torn DE grid, a cracked manifold. All of these are normal wear parts, and replacing one costs a fraction of a new unit. If the tank body is sound, repair usually wins.
Time to replace
A cracked or corroded tank body, because a patched pressure vessel is a gamble we will not take. An obsolete model where parts cost more than they should. Or a filter that was undersized from day one, which we see constantly on tract homes where the builder installed the smallest cartridge that would pass inspection.
We tell you which side you are on before any money changes hands.
Sizing First. Brand Second.
Homeowners always ask which brand to buy. Pentair, Hayward, and Jandy all build tanks that will outlast your patio furniture, so that is the easy part. What actually decides how your water looks is filter area relative to your pump.
Filters are the one piece of pool equipment where bigger is almost always better. A Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420 costs a bit more than the 320, but it runs at lower pressure, needs cleaning half as often, and gives your pump an easier life. Undersize it and you fight cloudy water forever, no matter how clean you keep the cartridges.
So we size from your pump flow, your pipe diameter, and how much debris your yard actually drops in the water, which matters more than people think with the wind we get out here in Riverside. If you are switching types at the same time, cartridge is where most of our customers land: no backwash line, fine filtration, simple upkeep. DE polishes water the finest. Sand is the easiest to live with. There is no single right answer, just the right answer for your pad.
Install Day, Start to Finish
One visit, almost every time. We drain and pull the old tank, set the new unit on a level base, and replumb with union fittings so the next tech to service it does not need a hacksaw. Stiff or leaking valves get replaced while the pipes are already open. It is the cheapest moment they will ever have to do it.
Then we fill the system, pressure test it, bleed the air, and write the clean baseline PSI right on the tank. From that day on, a glance at the gauge tells you exactly when the filter needs a cleaning. No guessing.

Not sure if your tank is worth saving? Get a second opinion before you spend anything.

How long does a filter installation take?
Most filter swaps are done in one visit. We show up with the unit, the fittings, and the valves on the truck, and the pump is usually running again by early afternoon. Add a couple of hours if the pad needs new plumbing runs.
Can I switch filter types?
Yes, and people do it all the time, usually from DE or sand over to cartridge. Going to cartridge means the backwash line gets capped and you stop sending water down the drain every few weeks. Going the other direction requires a backwash line, so not every pad is set up for it. We will tell you what your plumbing allows before you buy anything.
Will you install a filter I bought online?
We will, with one condition: we check the sizing against your pump first. A surprising share of owner-supplied filters are wrong for the system they were bought for. If yours is one of them, we say so before it goes in, not after.
What happens to the old tank?
It leaves with us. We drain it, pull out any DE or sand for proper disposal, and haul the shell away. You are not left with a hundred pound fiberglass tank leaning against the side gate.
